About this event

A strange doorway leading to a vast underground labyrinth appears in the basement of a furniture showroom in this unclassifiable instant spooky classic. We’re delighted to be showing a special edition of Backrooms with an additional new 15 minutes of special spooky footage from director Kane Parsons (placed after the end credits of the main film) A therapist (Renate Reinsve – Sentimental Value ) ventures into a mysterious, liminal dimension after her patient (Chiwetel Ejiofor – 12 Years a Slave ) inexplicably vanishes deep inside a suburban furniture showroom. As she searches the seemingly endless labyrinth of anonymous spaces, she begins to feel that she might not be alone. Inspired by a 2019 4chan image of an empty yellow-carpeted office space, Kane Parsons’ nine-minute “found-footage” horror short Backrooms has racked up 77 million views on YouTube since he posted it four years ago when he was just 16. This feature-length adaptation of the global phenomenon makes Kane Parsons the youngest director in A24’s history at age 20. This film contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
